Installing Wordpress

Most hosts make it easy to install the most common software on your website.  I will describe how to install it on Site5.  Even if you don’t host at Site5, most hosts use Fanastico to install software, so if your host uses Fantastico, then most of the instructions here will apply to you.

Log in to your Site5 Backstage or SiteAdmin account.  This is usually at http://backstage.site5.com/ , but follow the instructions you received when you set up your hosting account.  In Backstage, you’ll find a list of “My Websites”.  If you have only one domain, then that will be the only one listed.  When you set up more domains on your account, they will appear here.  Simply click on the name of your website.  It should look something like this:

Simply click the name of your domain. This will bring you to the SiteAdmin for that website:

On the menu on the left, click Third Party Tools, then Fantastico:

Click New Installation, and you’ll see something like this:

Select your domain or one of your subdomains.  I like to put wordpress on subdomain blog and use the main for a basic site, but you may prefer to have it on your main. Typically you will leave the Installation directory blank.  Pick an admin username and password.  You probably want your name as the administrator’s name, your email, and sitename and description.  All of the base Configuration can be changed later.

Click Install.  Confirm the selections and let it go!  Congratulations you have a new Wordpress installation!

AutoTweet

I installed AutoTweet on my blog.  Tweet This wasn’t quite what I wanted since it tweets a link to my blog, not the post itself.  Hopefully this will be perfect!  I still think Tweet This has it’s place, but it’s deactivated for now until I decide how to use it best.
